The Cost of Freedom

Dear Church Members and Friends,

This past week we lost a Navy Seal in defense of freedom.  It made me think about the cost of freedom; I don’t believe we give it enough thought in our culture today.  We don’t appreciate most things until they are gone.  If we lose our freedom, I fear with almost certainty, we shall never have it again!

I think sometimes we get caught up in thinking more about whether a war is a just war than thinking about the freedom of people.   I am convinced that all mankind desires freedom.  Many do not even know what real freedom is.  We know, but may be about to lose it, if we don’t pray and seek God for revival.  I believe we have this great freedom because of God!  He is responsible for the Founding Fathers’ view and sacrifice to give it to us, and we have always had to fight to keep it.  No one wants to fight, if there is another way, but sometimes it is the ONLY WAY.

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, we are told that a lady asked Benjamin Franklin a most important question, “Well, Doctor, what have we got—-a Republic or a Monarchy?”  “A republic, if you can keep it.”  The answer is so very important concerning who we are as a nation. A Monarchy is what some of our forefathers died to free us from.

In some sense, the Navy Seal Charlie Keating IV, died for the freedom we enjoy.  He and all the others like him should NEVER be forgotten!!  They take this oath: “I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.  So help me God.”  He swore to “defend the Constitution of the United States,” that is what we have; I ask the question, can we keep it?

Remember, Charlie Keating IV, JOINED!

May the 30th is Memorial Day. Take time to REMEMBER.
