Some Thoughts About John Adams & Harry S Truman

Dear Church Members and Friends,

As I recall, we looked at some of Abigail Adam’s writings last; today I want start with her husband the 2nd President of the United Sates, John Adams. I found that he is worth reading about, if you have the time.

He wrote in his diary February 22, 1756:  “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited!  Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God…What a Utopia , what a Paradise would this region be.”

Well, this describes what that President thought; God give us another like him. However, the only time I see that kind of people is during the 1000 year reign of Christ on His throne in Jerusalem, when the devil and his demons are bound. It won’t even be utopia then, but it will be the closest we have ever seen.

Well, one more today. Harry S. Truman our 33rd President (which I like) said: “But all of us–at home, at war, wherever we may be–are within the reach of God’s love and power. We all can pray. We all should pray.  We should ask the fulfillment of God’s will. We should ask for courage, wisdom, for the quietness of soul which comes alone to them who place their lives in His hands.”

That statement was made five years after he had made the decision to drop the bombs on Japan which ultimately saved millions of lives and ended World War II. This has gone down in history as one of, if not the greatest, decision any one President ever made. It is hard for us to understand how God uses one person to change history, but He does. I don’t really remember this; I was just a little boy, but I have studied some history. I have trouble sometimes understanding how God knows the future, and He places the right person at the right time to eventually fulfill His will. A good understanding of history reveals this to be true.

The most important person that ever lived was the Lord Jesus Christ; He changed history, and the world forever! He came at the right time and the right place to be our sacrifice. He defeated death and the grave!

Don’t put off trusting Him as Savior and Lord.

In His Service,

Pastor Daryl
